Important
: Please read the
Ethical Guidelines for Observational Studies: Observational Research, Audit and Related Activities (www.neac.health.govt.nz)
and the Application Process for Expedited Ethics Committee Review before completing the application form. The form also makes provision for requesting confirmation from a committee that no review is required for a low-risk audit or related activity. A study protocol must accompany all applications, including those seeking confirmation that no ethics committee review is required.

When writing information sheets and consent forms, please follow the following guidelines, from page 21-28:
Guidelines for the Completion of the National Application Form for Ethical Approval of a Research Project
No compensation statement is required for expedited review applications.
Applications must be typed. Hand written applications will be not be accepted.
Note
: A locality assessment is not required with an Expedited Review of Observational Studies Application Form but applicants are asked to ensure any locality organisations have been fully informed. (Guidelines 12.6)

It is highly recommended that researchers read this advice and guidance when completing the Expedited Review of Observational Studies Application Form.
Note:
Any use of tissue including blood must be submitted using the National Application Form.

Steps for processing applications for expedited review of observational studies
This sets out the process for ethical review once an expedited review application form is received by the committee administrator.
Researchers should allow at least two weeks for expedited review. If more urgent review is required, please advise the administrator and this will be taken into consideration.
