About the Committees

Northern X and Y Committees

Jurisdiction


The Northern X and Northern Y Regional Ethics Committees are responsible for reviewing proposals for research that is to be carried out entirely within the following district health board regions:
  • Image of map showing jurisdiction of Northern X and Northern Y Regional Ethics Committees. Northland
  • Waitemata
  • Auckland
  • Counties Manukau
  • Waikato
  • Lakes
  • Bay of Plenty
  • Tairawhiti

If a proposal involves a single study locality within these district health board regions, or multiple study localities all of which are within these district health board regions, then it should be considered by either the Northern X or Northern Y Regional Ethics Committee.

If a proposal involves any study locality outside of the above district health board regions, that proposal cannot be considered by the Northern X or Northern Y Regional Ethics Committees. If such a study also involves study localities within the above district health board regions, it should be submitted to the Multi-region Ethics Committee.

If you are unsure which committee you should send your research proposal to, you should contact the National Co-ordinator.
